Foster Home Feedback

Foster Home Feedback 4/15/25:Pumpernickel has been with us for a couple months now and we've loved learning more about him. He is learning to use his manners when sitting and waiting for treats with the pack. Pumpernickel LOVES running to his kennel when he knows it's time to eat or to get a treat when I leave. He is quiet in his kennel while foster mom is away and enjoys his chew toys and naps in there when I'm gone. Pumpernickel only uses his voice when he spots wildlife friends outside that he'd like to play with such as bunnies and squirrels. He has been around a dog savvy garage cat and didn't bother the cat with all the other dog friends he had. Pumpernickel has come out of his shell and yet is still submissive to the resident dogs. He loves to wrestle and play with his foster siblings. Pumpernickel would  love a home with another pup or a fenced yard to enjoy the outdoors. He would stay outside all day if he could. Although he's a big boy, he's lost a little of his chunkiness with all the play time he gets. His normal puppy mischievousness includes his love for shoe laces and ripping off the plastic piece at the end of the laces. Unfortunately, we have yet to get him his own pair of shoes to chew but that's in the works. Pumpernickel responds well to verbal correction and offering alternate chew toys. Pumpernickel is potty trained and sleeps through the night on the couch or in foster mom's bed with the pack. This boy is a gem of a dog and while he's still jumpy when he's excited, he's shown great progress with training and his treat motivation.

2/15/25 Foster Home Feedback: Pumpernickel has been in our home for 10 days. He LOVES to play with the playful pup in the house, He LOVES being outside in the snow, and he LOVES food. He has responded very politely to cues from our resident grump grandpaw. Having a fence for him has been a life saver. Pumpernickel is slightly obsessed with squirrels and bunnies. He's a big boy, very much of a puppy, and very strong.  When walking him, we are careful to hang on tightly if he spots wildlife. Pumpernickel  has been around a cat, which he ignored but did have lots of other exciting stimulation to choose from at that time. He is an angel going into the kennel when I leave the house, and falls right to sleep. Pumpernickel is  not much of a barker unless he's outside and spots wildlife he wants to chase. He is extremely food motivated which helps as we are working on manners. He tends to be a bit of a bulldozer and oblivious puppy as expected when he's caught up in play time with the other dogs. Pumpernickel  is potty trained and has not attempted to mark in our home. Pumpernickel  also really enjoys cuddling next to a human at bedtime. He's a great cuddler. Pumpernickel would love to have another dog to play with in his forever home.

** Pumpernickel is Lyme disease positive. This is a tick-borne illness, and he is currently being treated with Doxycycline.
